Tech Start Ups — Can You Create a Product to Fit the Market

Use other people’s resources. Fit the market.

Tech firms externalize their resources. Uber uses the resources of the drivers — they connect the passenger to the car and create value for all three.

Airbnb is an example of a tech platform that can cause disruption to existing businesses like hotels — by simply using resources that already exist, and shifting the demand by use of photographs across the globe. A network like Uber.

Retailing has been disrupted by Amazon. Delivery is fast — and membership to Prime means you buy more than you need, to justify your monthly sub. Costco also plays on this sunk cost and network ego.

This is the churn the high street cannot compete with. Lower storage cost, fast service, and a reputation for taking goods back — the delivery people are growing.

The gig economy is a by-product of the tech industry joining online customers to retail — like McDonald’s.

There is a huge opportunity for creating jobs and filling them — where tech connects supply with online demand. Example: Milk Basket, creating an app and collecting cash in advance to deliver milk by 7am in the morning.

So the question: can you create a product to fit the market? Use what already exists. Connect supply to demand. Take the cash up front.
